Indiana High School Celebrates 3 Sets Of Twins With Same Birthday

A high school in Madison, Indiana celebrated a rare birthday recently. Three sets of twins born on the same day -- Jan. 13 -- were acknowledged by Portage High School.

Twin siblings Ben and Carly Johnson, and twin sisters Keeley and Riley O'Leary, were born on Jan. 13, 2000 and are juniors. Twin brothers Joe and John Clemmons, on the other hand, were born on Jan. 13, 1999 and are seniors.

The twins learned about each other's same birthdate when the school first announced this two years ago, as Portage High School regularly does birthday announcements for the student body. "Understanding we were all the twins, it was really cool," John Clemmons said, according to Madison.Com.

The three sets of twins belong to different groups and cliques in schools but they are all friendly towards each other. Each twin also pursues a different path of interests and school activities.

For instance, Carly wants to pursue medicine while her twin Ben is still undecided. John wants to be in the Air Force while his brother Joe wants to attend culinary school. Twin sisters Keeley and Riley have similar interests of getting into medicine or playing the same sports.

Jane Hemming, a teacher in the high school, has one of each twin in her class and she found the birthday announcement this year as amusing. As it turns out, Portage High School has 11 pairs of twins currently enrolled in the school.

The happy coincidence has ignited the interest of math professor Benedek Valkó. He calculated and approximated the chances of having three sets of twins going to the same school and having the same birthday would be 1 in 1.5 million.

In 2013, Portage High School twin sisters Jade and Jalise McKnight also made headlines and brought school pride when they made it the state championship, according to the NWI Times. Jalise played with the softball team while Jade aced the long jump competition. The girls are now attending college.
