Texas Daycare Sign For Parents With 'Appalling' Habit Goes Viral: 'Get Off Your Phone!'

A Texas daycare center posted a door sign for parents to get off their phones whenever they arrive to pick up their children. The messaged was snapped by a mother who posted it on social media. The photo, which also described parents' phone habit as "appalling," has now gone viral.

Juliana Farris Mazurkewicz was in the unidentified daycare center to pick up her child and saw the sign on the door addressed to parents. "Get off your phone," the message read. "Your child is happy to see you! Are you happy to see your child??"

The message also stated how parents aren't usually paying attention to their kids when they fetch them in the daycare center because they are glued to their phones. "It's appalling," the message read. The mom took a photo of the sign and posted this on Facebook.

Mazurkewicz told Chron that as a parent who relies on her phone, she wasn't offended by the sign. "I thought it was a good reminder, to myself and others, of what's important," she said, which is why she was prompted to share the message on social media.

Mazurkewicz, however, refused to name the facility and only said that it's an independent business operating in a small community. She has concerns for the children's safety, especially since she has gotten many followers when the post went viral.

As of press time, Mazurkewicz's post has over a million shares and nearly hundred thousand likes. People have also debated on whether or not the daycare center has crossed the line with its sign for parents.

Some, including Mazurkewicz, believe that its message is right on the mark. Others, however, think it is classic mom-shaming especially for working mothers who juggle a career and raising kids, and who need their phones constantly open to connect to work to pay daycare center bills, according to Scary Mommy.

What do you think of the sign, parents? Is it timely and right or is unnecessary and wrong? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
