When Lady Gaga performed during the halftime show at Super Bowl 51, she made sure to acknowledge her parents, Cynthia and Joe Germanotta, were in the audience. That quick gesture, which gave the world a peek of the loving relationship between mom, dad and daughter, might come as a surprise for many, but Lady Gaga — or Stefani to her family -— always got the support of her family despite her controversial music.
Romper reported when Lady Gaga descended from the Super Bowl stage, she was heard saying hello to her her mom and dad on the mic and then proceeded to perform the most-awaited halftime entertainment of Super Bowl 51. It was a "cute and surprising moment" in a presentation that received a standing ovation from the spectators.
According to Lady Gaga's mom, the music artist has been waiting since preschool to be the featured artist at the Super Bowl. "My daughter Stefani was always the most transfixed by the halftime show," Cynthia wrote via Today. The Feb. 5 performance was actually a dream come true for one of American' music's icon.
Lady Gaga's parents can't help but be proud of their daughter's latest achievement. "To be on the biggest stage on the world is every artist's dream," the singer's dad Joe told Entertainment Online. The Germanottas said as a family, they have traditionally watched the Super Bowl every year and to have their daughter perform for Super Bowl 51 was indeed worth celebrating.
They also have another daughter, Natalie, who worked behind the scenes in the costume department. "So, we're extremely proud and honored to have all of our family here," the parents said.
Lady Gaga told CBS News she knew just what this Super Bowl performance meant to her dad. "Making your dad happy is, especially for an Italian Catholic girl, I'll tell you, it feels really good," the singer said. "And I feel that today."
