Filming for the fifth installment to the "Bourne" series is already underway and fans of the franchise would be thrilled to see that Matt Damon, who plays Jason Bourne in the previous movies, is back in full form.
Producer Frank Marshall shared the very first image of "Bourne 5" from the set on his Twitter account, revealing a shirtless Matt who looks like he's prepping up for a fight. "First day of principal photography complete," tweeted Marshall, "and happy to report, BOURNE is back! #Bourne2016."
Matt starred in the first three "Bourne" films that wrapped up in 2007 with "The Bourne Ultimatum." A fourth movie, "The Bourne Legacy," came out in 2012 without Damon in the lead role. Instead, Jeremy Renner played the main protagonist as Aaron Cross, who worked in the same agency as Bourne. According to Coming Soon, while details to the plot of "Bourne 5" are scarce, the new movie will not see Bourne and Cross together.
According to IO9, "Bourne 5" is rumored to be retitled to "The Bourne Enemy."
Aside from Matt, who last played the titular role eight years ago, Julie Stiles will also reprise her role for the fifth movie. The actress played Nicky Parsons, a Treadstone technician in the second movie, "The Bourne Supremacy," which was released in 2004.
Also joining the cast for "Bourne 5" is Tommy Lee Jones, who will play a high-ranking CIA officer. Vincent Cassel, on the other hand, has been cast as this installment's villain, while Alicia Vikander is also in the movie for a mystery role, according to Slash Film.
In a previous interview, Matt offered some hints about what fans can expect.
"Without giving too much of it away, it's Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world. It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy," the actor told Buzzfeed.
The actor also said that the movie's story will open in Greece and end in Las Vegas in what would be a "grotesque incarnation."
Unlike the previous "Bourne" films where Paul Greengrass only served as its director, this time he's also involved in writing the screenplay with Christopher Rouse.
"Bourne 5" is slated to hit theaters on July 29, 2016.
