Adele Disses Estranged Father In Grammy Speech, Dad Mark Evans Expresses Regrets

Adele swept the major Grammy awards category last Sunday and in one of her speeches, she took a jab at her father, Mark Evans, and their estranged relationship. Adele's dad has expressed his regrets over his failures towards the multi-awarded singer.

Variety reported that when Adele accepted her trophy for the 2017 Grammy Awards Record of the Year, the singer acknowledged Jonathan Dickins, her longtime manager. Adele said that Dickins was like a father to her.

"[My] comeback, as it were, was completely masterminded by him," Adele said of Dickins. "You executed it incredibly, and I owe you everything," the "Hello" singer told her manager who was in the audience. "I love you like you're my dad," she added.

Later, Adele had to clarify her statement after saying she loves Dickins like her father. "I don't love my dad, that's the thing," Adele said. "I love Dickins like I would love my dad."

It's no secret that Adele's relationship with dad Mark Evans has been wrought with tension. Evans left Adele's mother, Penny Adkins, when the "When We Were Young" singer was only 3-years-old, thus Adele was raised by a single parent. Her estrangement with her dad has been reported in the media since the singer shot up to fame.

Watching his daughter's multiple wins and speeches at the Grammy back home in Bridgend in Wales, Evans expressed regrets over his failure to be a father. "I let her down badly, and I wish I could turn the clock back and do things differently," Evans said, according to Wales Online.

Evans admitted that being an alcoholic ruined his relationship with Adele and her mom. New York Daily News noted Adele and Evans tried to mend their relationship a few years ago but the dad ruined this again when he spoke of the reconciliation in the media in 2011. Apparently, the father and daughter haven't been talking since then.
