Pop star Bruno Mars is being given offers to perform at the headlining spot at the halftime show of NFL's Super Bowl XLVIII.
The star, who had the honors of performing at the halftime of the NFL Super Bowl back in 2014, had performed amazingly, and is again being offered another opportunity to headline the show next year.
Entertainment Weekly said its unnamed sources report that Mars was offered the headliner spot at the halftime show of the NFL Super Bowl's golden anniversary in Santa Clara, California.
Back in the Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014, the pop star gave a hit performance and was joined by guest performers Red Hot Chili Peppers. His performance was the most watched halftime show ever in history, before being overtaken by Katy Perry's performance. Billboard reports that according to Nielsen, Mars' 2014 performance had 115 million viewers, second only to Perry's which had 121 million viewers.
Billboard also reports that for this time's performance, Mars was asked to "curate" the halftime show, meaning that if he agrees, watchers might be able to expect some impressive guests to come alongside his performance.
Sarah Moll, director of media events for the NFL, told Billboard that she was a "huge fan" of Mars, and the initial conversation to book him for the Super Bowl XLVIII got going because of that.
"Myself and our producer, Ricky Kirshner, were both personal fans of Bruno and had seen him in concert and knew what he could do," she said. "And it was a lot of just telling folks here and getting folks excited about Bruno and taking them to shows and letting them see what he could do. And that's kind of what got it going."
"I like to think that I have somewhat of a say and I know I do have somewhat of a say. I definitely let my personal opinions come out, you have to," she said.
However, Moll said that the decision to book Mars wasn't based on her being a fan alone, and that it's going to be ultimately decided by the league's commissioner and executives.
Zap2it.com says that while performing at any Super Bowl halftime is already a career milestone, performing at the NFL's golden anniversary makes it even bigger. And with Mars' hit "Uptown Funk" dominating the charts, he's now bigger and "his star is even brighter" than when he performed at the Super Bowl two years ago.
Fans will just have to wait. For now, just watch Mars' 2014 halftime performance.
