"Dark Souls III," the third installment to the "Dark Souls" series is coming with some changes.
Polygon reports that From Software seems to be adopting "smart steps" from Dark Souls 2, which was a "divisive entry" in the Souls series.
Game Informer reports that the upcoming dark-action RPG's elements seem like a hotpot of designer Hidetaka Miyazaki's ideas, mixing aspects from Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and BloodBorne.
Although this idea may seem to indicate what players might be able to expect in the game, Miyazaki has reportedly chosen some specific elements that will be returning from the earlier installments. Here are some of the things that players may or may not expect when the next installment, Dark Souls III, comes out.
The games website reports that players can expect to use fast travel right from the start of the game, much like its predecessor Dark Souls II. Unless they interfere with current or new game plans, Miyazaki reportedly wants to keep the convenient aspects from earlier titles.
Miyazaki also said that there will be a method for players to reallocate stat points in the game, allowing them to change builds without having to create a new character. However, he is unsure of the availability of the "soul vessel" item that enables that, which probably means that there will be another way to do it.
"I'm not sure if the same sort of item will be implemented, but there will be a method for players to re-assign souls," said Miyazaki.
A New Game + mode is also coming, which will closely resemble that of Dark Souls II. This means new weapons, items and new enemy placements.
Weapons durability is being balanced. "Still tuning the balance, but I personally think that the weapons in Dark Souls II break a little too easily," said Miyazaki. "However, in Dark Souls I, they didn't break enough, and so I'm hoping to find a good balance for Dark Souls III. "
Summoning will stay the same, while for Invasion, Miyazaki said players won't have to worry on stacking up on cracked red orbs. Hidden walls will be found throughout the game as well.
Game Informer reports that Miyazaki hinted that Magic would have its own system, providing players with core spells corresponding to new options. A traditional MP bar will also be introduced, changing the limitations of magic usage.
"Players will be able to have more criteria to accurately choose the different types of spells to best fit their tactics and strategies. This is similar to the thinking behind the characterization of each weapon and their specific battle arts," said Miyazaki.
Dark Souls III is scheduled to come early in 2016.
