The much-awaited return of "The Mindy Project" Season 4 is near. In line with its debut on the streaming site Hulu, the show released a new trailer for its fans.
The teaser opens with the last scene from season 3 with Danny (Chris Messina) arriving at Mindy's parent's home in India to tell them he's in love with their daughter. There's another scene showing Mindy's father telling Danny that he's going to have to cut off his hands, and Danny desperately running at the subway tracks.
New faces are also shown in the clip, such as Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Garret Dillahunt. Levitt appears on the show in an alternate universe as Mindy's husband, according to E! Online, while Dillahunt plays the new doctor at the clinic. His casting was announced back in July, according to Deadline.
Mindy is also seen helplessly nursing her baby in the subway, while the rest of the cast like Morgan (Ike Barinholtz), Tamra (Xosha Roquemore) and Jeremy (Ed Weeks) deal with their own crazy problems.
Now that the show has moved from network TV Fox to Hulu's streaming service, it has expanded its episodes for season four to 26. This means that there will be plenty of chances to develop the stories or characters of the series and the producers are definitely taking advantage of this.
"People could look at the show and be like, 'Well, Mindy has a lot of her problems solved now. She's with Danny. She has a baby. Her business is going well,'" said Matt Warburton, the show's executive producer, according to TV Line. "We, at various points in the season, will have the character on her heels as much as we ever have."
Viewers will find that the fourth season will be a lot more different than its previous seasons in tone and theme. "There's definitely, in the first few episodes, a few jokes that people will really gasp at," warned Warburton.
As far as the stories go, Danny meeting Mindy's parents for the first time is just the icing on the cake, as there are also stories touching on Danny and Morgan's relationship, and more encounters with returning guests like the brothers Mark and Jay Duplass and Cristin Milioti.
The show will still be a workplace comedy despite the structure changes, but the biggest change of it all will involve the main character, Mindy Lahiri. "Her core personality traits are always going to be the same no matter what, but I think it will be interesting how she's going to be such a devoted and fierce mother," said Mindy Kaling, according to She Knows. "We'll see how her bad behavior comes out in ways that are in protection of her child."
