"The X-Files" star Gillian Anderson might have no problems figuring out aliens and supernatural on her long-running TV show. The actress, however, admits to struggling with parenting and never finding motherhood "easy."
The mom-of-three said she feels the pressure more so because of the demands of her work as an actress. Part of her struggles as a parent is in her upcoming book for women, "We: A Manifesto for Women Everywhere," which she penned with long-time friend and journalist Jennifer Nadel.
Anderson is a mom to 22-year-old Piper, her first child with ex-husband Clyde Klotz. She is also mother to 10-year-old Oscar and 8-year-old Felix, with ex-partner Mark Griffiths, per The Spec.
She said in her early years as a mom, especially with Piper, there were days she felt this constant tug-of-war with being with her children or doing something else. There were certainly days when she wanted the peace and quiet.
"I don't think I'm alone with that," the actress said, referring to other moms. "I try to be tolerant and patient [of the kids.]"
Ten years ago, she met and became friends with Nadel and realized they had so many things in common. From having a bad childhood, to broken relationships, to single parenting, to a loss in the family through a serious illness, to therapies and countless of disappointments, Anderson and Nadel bonded over their shared experiences, according to Daily Mail.
On March 7, their book will hit store shelves and online stores. "We: A Manifesto for Women Everywhere" is "practical guide" to women discovering their center and power. The idea was born out of Anderson and Nadel's many similarities.
"It comes from two friends who have stumbled along together, trying, failing, crying, laughing, learning and trying again," the book's first page stated. Watch the actress and the journalist discuss the book release in the video below.
