The third series adapted for television from DC comics has started filming this week. The cast of "Legends of Tomorrow," which was spun from the "Arrow" series on The CW, showed their first day on the set as they posted updates on their social media accounts.
It was Caity Lotz (White Canary), who first announced on her Twitter account that the first day of shooting is already underway. She wrote, "Day one has begun. And yes were shooting a massive fight scene today :) #LegendsOfTomorrow"
This was followed by an Instagram post from Arthur Darvill, who plays Rip Hunter, showing a photo of a portable potty on the set, cheekily addressing "the glamour" that goes on behind filming.
Next, producer Marc Guggenheim shared a photo of the series' clapper on his Twitter account to officially signal that production is in full swing. Guggenheim is also one of the show's writers.
Actor Brandon Routh, who plays Ray Palmer a.k.a. The Atom, also shared a photo on his Instagram account with some of the cast.
"Legends Of Tomorrow" follows a rather large group of heroes and villains with Rip Hunter as one of the lead characters. His super power allows him to hop to different timelines in order to stop the immortal Vandal Savage, played by Casper Crump, and his sinister plans to rule the world.
"The show will contain elements of Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis' Justice League International run," said Guggenheimer via The Hollywood Reporter. Eventually, the series will also show the characters crossing over to their dark sides, so betrayal will become the running theme for the series.
"We made the present so screwed up and uninhabitable for these characters that they had to literally get onto a spaceship and go to another time just so they wouldn't be killed either by their friends or enemies," said showrunner Phil Klemmer, according to THR.
"Legends of Tomorrow" is set to premiere on The CW during the midseason with 13 episodes, according to Zap2It. The show also stars Victor Garber, Ciarra Renee, Franz Drameh, Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller, according to Warner Bros.
"It is heroes and villains working to take on this one big super villain, but that doesn't mean it's one big happy family," Miller said, according to Digital Spy. "It's going to be quite to opposite."
