A pair of identical twin brothers were named the class valedictorian and salutatorian of the Locust Valley High School. Nicholas and Matthew Rizzo's achievements made history as there has never been an instance where twins earned the top two spot among the graduating class in this New York institution.
Friends who grew up with the twins long predicted the 17-year-old brothers would end up valedictorian and salutatorian. The difference in their grade-point average was also quite remarkable as Nicholas, the valedictorian, had a 107.90 GPA and salutatorian Matthew had a 107.77 GPA, according to Newsday.
In addition to their accomplishments, the College Board also cited the twins as Advanced Placement Scholars with Distinction. They were also named candidates to receive an International Baccalaureate Diploma.
The Rizzo twins are expected to deliver a combined graduation speech in the ceremony that will take place in June. "It increases the effect because he'll say one thing, and I will pick up the sentence because we are so in tune with each other," Matthew said, per New York Daily News.
As twins, the brothers share an enthusiasm for robotics, online gaming, bowling and cross-country, where they are co-captains of the school's team. As individuals, however, Nicholas is more into physics while Matthew is a history buff, according to NBC New York.
The identical twins have been accepted to colleges for next school year and it's likely they will go to different universities after graduation. If that happens, it would be the first time the inseparable brothers would be apart. The brothers took the same classes together all throughout high school.
The high school principal said the brothers are indeed exceptional students. "They have mastered the art of time management at a very early age," Principal Kieran McGuire said, via WJBD Radio. "The added bonus that they have is that little competition that they have between each other, which is very friendly."
