Alyssa Milano Ups Breastfeeding Advocacy Saying She'll 'Nurse Until Daughter is Six'

Just when all the talks and debates about breastfeeding and whether or not it is appropriate to breastfeed in public, another breastfeeding advocate stands up to shun bashers away in the person of Alyssa Milano.

In a report by ET Online, the former Charmed star supports the idea of public breastfeeding saying, "Everyone's fine with her nipples being out. I think people are more comfortable sexualizing breasts than relating them to what they were made for, which is feeding another human."

Milano's bold remark was in response to haters who gave negative comments when she posted a photo showing her nursing daughter Elizabella, who is now one month old. This statement also goes to all people who humiliate and antagonize mothers who publicly breastfeed their children. She continues saying, "I don't care. I'm going to keep breastfeeding, maybe even until she's six!", ET Online noted.

In the same report, Milano opens up to ET Online how "crazy" it is for people to react negatively on her breastfeeding picture compared to a photo of Miley Cyrus who almost went topless and nipples all out on the recent MTV Video Music Awards.

According to News Australia, Milano is indeed a strong advocate of breastfeeding and this is not the first instance where Milano aired out her concerns about how some people address women's rights when it comes to breastfeeding.

As per News Australia, it was April of this year when we first heard Milano creating a buzz on breastfeeding issues on Twitter about an incident she had at the Heathrow Airport. She complained why the personnel confiscated pumped breastmilk that she brought with her saying, "Just took my pumped breast milk away. 10 ounces [295mL]. Gone. Not okay." She added, "They said they would let the pumped milk through if I had the baby with me. Why would I need to pump if I had the baby with me????"

Milano opened up to News Australia how thankful she was for receiving an "overwhelming" support for the said concer from netizens around the globe. She continues saying,"I think that breastfeeding mums feel like what they do needs to be hidden, or not feel like they're getting the appreciation that comes along with being a breastfeeding mom, and it meant something that someone was being vocal. When I post pictures of me breastfeeding Bella, it's not that I'm trying to be very outspoken about breastfeeding, it's that it's a very special moment in my life."

It is interesting to see how Hollywood celebrities take part in social awareness and womens rights in today's world. Alyssa Milano became famous for her role as Phoebe Halliwell in the long-running US TV show Charmed, along with her other remarkable roles in Melrose Place and Who's the Boss? Now, as she turns 42, a loving wife to David Bugliari, and a hands-on mom to Milo, 4, and Elizabella, 1-month old, she is the new face of women empowerment.
