With the premiere date of Criminal Minds Season 11 less than a month away, fans and followers of the investigators from the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) could not get enough of the spoilers and cast news that keep popping out of the Internet as of late. Judging from the teaser trailer of the first episode of Criminal Minds Season 11, titled "Twisted," the BAU will be dealing with more than just a deranged criminal out to get innocent lives as the team appear to be confronted with a "mole" in the agency.
The idea of a mole in the team was brought to light when FBI Special Agent Aaron (Thomas Gibson) tells Dr. Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler) that the UnSub had been tipped off prior to the supposed arrest plotted by the BAU team. The entire group then are forced to look over their shoulders as they attempt to resolve the case. Tyler is the latest addition to the Criminal Minds cast following the departure of Jennifer Love Hewitt. At the moment, no announcement has been made on the future of AJ Cook's character, named Jennifer "JJ" Jareau. Both actresses are absent from Criminal Minds Season 11 due to pregnancies.
Meanwhile, fans of Criminal Minds could expect the return of the daughter of David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), named Joy Struthers (Amber Stevens). Joy appeared in Criminals Minds Season 10, specifically in the episodes titled "Fate" and "Anonymous." She is described as the daughter of Rossi with his second wife, a French diplomat named Hayley. Throughout her life, Joy thought of Hayley's subsequent husband as her real father - only to find out otherwise when the man was on the brink of death. She then went on to search and observe Rossi, the man she was told to be her biological dad.
The return of Joy in Criminal Minds Season 11 could be yet another attempt of Mantegna to delve into the personal lives of the characters of the show. "I think that when a show's been on so long - I'm directing 2 episodes this season, I've directed one in the last few seasons, and I purposefully try to bring in more personal stories in the scripts I direct," revealed Mantegna in an AMA Reddit session. He went on to say, "There's always going to be a crime - that's the name of the show, I get it - but there's going to be more character development. As to what that is, you'll have to see. I've been married 3 times, we've dealt with two of my wives so far, so there's a possibility you might find out more about wife number 3."
As for the romantic life of resident genius Dr Spencer Reid, it looks like the Internet is rife with speculations. With the entry of Tyler's character in Criminal Minds Season 11, the rumor mill keeps churning potential plot directions that could lead to Lewis and Reid getting romantically involved. At the moment, however, no official announcement has been given with regard his future girlfriend except for the assurance of showrunner Erica Messer that Criminal Minds Season 11 might be the best time for the lonely doctor to finally find love once again.
Criminal Minds Season 11 will hit the small screens by September 30, 2015.
