'Samsung Galaxy S7' Release Date, Specs & Features: Codename, Details Leaked -- Get The Latest News

There's no denying that the smartphone enthusiasts are looking forward to Samsung's next Galaxy flagship. New reports suggest that the codename and the details of the much awaited phone Galaxy S7 leaked, here's the information we had.

The early launch of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ increases the chance that Galaxy S7 will be released earlier. According to SamMobile, a new Samsung phone with the name "Lucky-LTE" appeared on the Geekbench benchmark database, and the report confirms that the name was referring to Galaxy S7, with internal codename Project Lucky.

Why did Samsung name their next Galaxy flagship with the said codename? The report suggests that the reason behind the name was that the number 7 has been referred as the lucky number for ages.

If there are other reasons for the codename beside the number 7, then it's for Samsung to tell. Beside the codename, leaked information includes the crucial details about the upcoming smartphone. Telefoonabonnement, a Dutch website, posted the leaked AnTuTu benchmark on their site which revealed the phone's specs and features.

According to the snapshot, the gadget will run ob Android 5.1.1 and will be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and Adreno TM 530. It will come in a comfortable size of 5.7 inches with a display of 1440x 2560 pixels and an impressive RAM of 4GB.

According to Know Your Mobile, AnTuTu has proven itself as a reliable source for decent leaks in the past, so more likely the report could be true. It will not hurt one so much to give them the benefit of the doubt.

On the other hand, SamMobile reported that Galaxy S7 was tested with a new Exynos 8890 chipset, which is most likely the M1 Mongoose SoC. Mongoose scored impressively in the Geekbench benchmark but didn't so well with prototype S7. The report claims that the device was tested with the CPU at a lower frequency and that the development is targeting for a 2.3 GHz.

Snapdragon 820 might be powering some variants, most likely in US where CDMA neworks are still in operation. Samsung has already revealed during their S6 launch that they are still open to utilizing Qualcomm's mobile processor, so long they are still good enough.

Samsung is also testing S7 with their UFS 2.0 storage, which is reportedly incompatible with the memory controller found on SD cards. Although the company is finding ways to resolve the compatibility issue, it is too early to hope that the final product will bring back the expandable storage to Samsung's flagship line.

Galaxy S7 is expected to be released in the market on the first quarter of 2016.
