Arizona's love interest post-Callie will likely be introduced soon on "Grey's Anatomy." Tessa Ferrer will reprise her role as former surgical resident Leah Murphy in ABC's medical drama.
TVLine reported the news, saying that Ferrer will return in an unspecified number of "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 episodes. Leah was last seen in Seasons 9 and 10 and was tangled in a slightly rocky romance with Arizona (Jessica Capshaw). In "Grey's Anatomy" Season 10, she was fired by Richard (James Pickens Jr.) for being an incompetent surgeon.
Leah could be Arizona's next romance following Callie's (Sara Ramirez) departure. "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes was the first to tease about a love interest for Arizona, Parent Herald previously reported.
Capshaw's recent interview with TVLine revealed that the arrival of Arizona's new romance is "not going to be too far away." The actress also told The Hollywood Reporter that Arizona's new love on "Grey's Anatomy" is likely a person with a "great amount of confidence and excitement." Capshaw hopes that the two's relationship will be "fun, sexy and exciting," with lively exchanges and banters.
Episode three of "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 showcased a heated argument between Arizona and Alex (Justin Chambers) about his assault on Andrew (Giacomo Gianniotti), her roommate. Arizona was worried about Alex's career and the former lashed out at her, yelling that whatever Arizona's grievances are, he already heard it from Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Bailey (Chandra Wilson). Alex's recent behavior will both make Arizona angry and worried.
Meredith also has a problem concerning her sister Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and Nathan (Martin Henderson). Maggie, who has feelings for Nathan, asked Meredith for advice about asking him out.
When Nathan learned about it, he tried to convince Meredith to tell her sister the truth about them (Nathan and Meredith slept together in the previous "Grey's Anatomy" season). Meredith, however, dismissed Nathan's idea and told him to agree on a date with Maggie and act like a jerk so she would like him no more. But Nathan dismissed Maggie's offer and though he did it politely, she was still upset, TVLine wrote.
This could put a wedge between Meredith and Maggie's relationship. McCreary told TVGuide that her "Grey's Anatomy" character is "a stickler for honesty and the truth," and she would not take it lightly if someone like Meredith -- who she deeply trusts and relies on to -- isn't transparent to her.
Next week's "Grey's Anatomy" episode titled "Falling Slowly" will air on Thursday night on ABC. Watch the promo below.
