'Star Trek: Discovery' Air Date, Cast News & Updates: Second Starship With Klingon Captain Possible?

As "Star Trek: Discovery" is slowly taking shape on CBS All Access, new developments reveal more unexpected details. One of this is the presence of a Klingon captain in the cast. Is this an indication that there will be a second starship in the series?

Following news that showrunner Bryan Fuller has dropped out of "Star Trek: Discovery," sources from The Hollywood Reporter reveal that the upcoming season will also feature a male Klingon captain. Though casting has not yet been announced, this particular detail drew reactions from fans following the show's development.

Movie Pilot has long speculated that "Star Trek: Discovery" could feature two separate ships, each with a main cast. One ship would be coming from the Starfleet -- which has already been determined as USS Discovery -- and the other would come from a rival.

With news of a male Klingon captain in the cast of "Star Trek: Discovery," it looks like the speculation might be on the nose. The site even suggested the second starship would be a Klingon Bird of Prey.

Further, "Star Trek: Discovery" could explore the Battle of Axanar, which delves on the war between the Federation and the Klingons before Captain Kirk's time. But Inverse notes that the said Klingon captain might be an ally of the Federation, which could also pave way for a new timeline on "Star Trek."

In developing "Star Trek: Discovery," producers have earlier expressed that they are aiming to do a story that has never been done in the franchise. With Bryan Fuller stepping down from this job as showrunner, the same goals are still retained under the guidance of Alex Kurtzman, Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts.

"Star Trek: Discovery" is scheduled for launching on the streaming platform CBS All Access in May 2017. Casting has not yet been announced, but keep track of the show's latest news and updates on this site.
