Sandra Bullock talks about her purpose in life and admits that it is being a mom to her two adopted kids, whom she says are her priorities.
Bullock opens up about being a mom in an interview with Hoda Kotb on Monday's episode of the Today Show. The actress wells up as she talks about her kids being her priority and being a mother as her purpose and not as a Hollywood actress.
Priorities
"Everything is about them being ok, being in school, having what they need, their moments. I need to be there for every single moment that they have. It's harder for me to leave them than I think it is for them when I leave. I don't leave that much, and I don't work that much anymore either. ..." Bullock says.
The Ocean's 8 star also talks about the moment she knew that she wanted to have her own family. She recalls that she had that gut feeling to be a mom in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
"Katrina happened in New Orleans, and I knew. Like, just something told me that my child was there. It was weird. It was very, very weird," the Bird Box actress shares.
Bullock wells up as she recalls how her first adopted child, son Louis, 8, first came to her life. She says it took four years before she met him. The adoption process took longer than anticipated.
Meeting Her Kids
Bullock started the adoption process in 2006 with then-husband Jesse James. During this time, Louis was just 3 months old. The actress finalized the adoption process as a single parent after the two split amid a cheating scandal.
The 53-year-old producer and philanthropist recalls the moment she held Louis in her arms and looked him in the eyes. She had the feeling that he had always been waiting there for her. He fit perfectly in the crook of her arm.
"He looked me in the eyes, and he was just - he was wise. My child was wise. The beautiful thing that I was constantly told was, 'The perfect child will find you. You will find your child,'" Bullock tells Kotb.
Three years later, Bullock welcomed a daughter, Laila, 5, into her family. The actress reveals that it was Louis who convinced her to adopt a second child after he announced at a party that they were "gonna have a baby soon."
Bullock says that she hopes her story will inspire people to adopt because there are thousands of children who are ready to be someone's child. The actress certainly inspired Kotb, who turned to her for advice before she adopted her daughter Haley Joy.
