Kara Keough Explains the Death of Her Newborn Son, McCoy Bosworth

Kara Keough shared her thoughts about the death of her newborn son, McCoy Bosworth, during an interview with "Good Morning America."

Kara Keough's Delivery Plans

Almost one month ago, the former "Real Housewives of Orange County" reality star talked about the sequence of events that happened before her newborn son passed away. With Kyle Bosworth by her side, Keough shared that she had planned to labor at home, then they would run to the hospital to give birth because she had wanted to do it without medications.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic that is still going on, she realized that she would not have a doula by her side when she gives birth. Hence, her anxiety grew because even her husband would not be allowed to be there for her during delivery. She also learned that babies would be taken from their moms when the moms would have fever regardless if they tested positive with the coronavirus or not.

She sat on one side, thinking what if she gets a fever, knowing that it sometimes happens to mothers after giving birth, then her baby would be taken away from her. She said the fear compounded so much. In the end, Keough thought that she would want to remove the burden from the hospital, so she decided to give birth at home, knowing that she had a healthy pregnancy.

Kara Keough Gave Birth at Home

Kara Keough went into labor early on April 6, and she said that McCoy's head came out quickly. She knew that her baby was having shoulder dystocia, which is when either one or both shoulders of the baby get stuck in his mother's pelvis during labor.

The doula and a midwife were able to get the baby out, but they could not get the newborn's heart rate, so he was rushed to the nearest hospital in an ambulance. Although doctors got the pulse of McCoy back, he had already suffered brain trauma because, for 45 minutes, he had no oxygen and heart rate.

For 72 hours, the baby was put on a ventilator in the intensive care unit, but his condition did not improve. The hospital allowed McCoy's parents and sister, Decker, to be with him during his passing, and they were glad that they got to meet him and know him, said Keough tearfully.

Kara Keough's Donations

The reality star donated McCoy's heart valves to other kids, and the milk that she was going to give to her son was given to another child who was in the neonatal intensive care unit. Keough said that they wanted their son's life to be meaningful and to let all the positive ripples of his life to be there.

Kara Keough also said each time she hears her daughter laugh and sees her run, she appreciates her more. Adding to that, she said that everything that is good is so much better now that they have hit the lowest of the lows.
