Shaquille O’Neal Taught His Sons Best Way to Handle George Floyd Incident

On Tuesday, Shaquille O'Neal appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Kimmel asked the NBA legend if his sons knew what to say to police officers in the same scenario like the one encountered by George Floyd. O'Neal said he talks to his children about the topic all the time.

Shaquille O'Neal taught his sons what to do

O'Neal has taught his sons to show respect first. Then when things get rough, they should not say or do anything. He told them to comply and call him. He said he would be the one to handle the situation when things get out of hand.

As much as possible, O'Neal tries to be real with his sons. His first son, Shareef, 20, plays basketball at Louisiana State University, O'Neal's alma mater. His younger son, Shaquir, 17, is a basketball star at Santa Monica High School.

O'Neal's opinion on George Floyd incident

O'Neal shared his opinion about the recent incident of unjust killing. He said that George Floyd complied based on the videos he had seen.

The former professional player had involvements with law enforcement in the past. After serving as a reserve police officer in both Miami and Los Angeles, he knows Floyd's death was "wrong."

He believes in the old saying that what is right is right, and what is wrong is wrong. For him, what happened to Floyd was so wrong. It was his first time seeing that "technique" of kneeling on a someone's neck for nearly nine minutes to restrain him or her.

O'Neal shared that he knows a lot of officers who would not do that. They are demanding justice because everybody is upset and tired. The NBA star also said that arresting Chauvin is not enough. They want the high ranking officials to arrest the other three officers.

Protests all over the country

O'Neal also shared that it was his first time seeing protests all over the country. Usually, he sees them within a city. The event shows that everybody is tired and wants justice.

He added that he does not like opportunists or people who leave bricks and cause riots. Other than that, he also does not support people breaking into stores.

Meanwhile, O'Neal called the attention of the Minnesota governor to do something. He thinks that Floyd's family wants to have the three other officers arrested.
