Welcoming a newborn baby at home is exciting. For new parents, it is the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
Like any other new beginnings, starting life with a newborn baby also means preparing the nursery.
There are a lot of nursery checklists that tackle the things that parents should not miss.
However, the tricky part is ticking off everything in nursery checklists for preparation and decorations.
Here are some of the things parents should not miss when preparing a nursery:
Pick a theme
One of the first things that should be ticked off the nursery checklist is the theme. Sometimes, details like this matter in putting together a nursery.
When parents put off choosing a theme, then the next steps can be out of focus. When a theme has been picked, at least the kind of crib, paint or decorations can be decided easier.
Maximize the space
Although a nursery does not have to be very spacious, it should be part of the nursery checklist to maximize the allotted space.
The best way to do this is to make sure that things that you need are within reach when you are standing at the changing table. Some of the things which should be prioritized in stuff arrangement are the burp cloths, laundry hamper, wipes, diapers, and pacifier.
Lighting should mimic nighttime
When the newborn baby arrives home, he or she is going to sleep most of the time. That is why parents should try to ensure that the lighting is dark, so that taking a nap during the day will not be difficult for the newborn baby.
This step can be taken off the nursery checklist by acquiring some heavy-enough curtain or window shade.
That does not mean making a nursery dungeon, but only faking the darkness in the nursery.
Personalize the nursery
Some parents suggest that a personal item from a loved one can be put in the nursery. This way, there is more warmth and love in a little space for the little one.
Although the newborn baby might not appreciate this, just yet, when they are old enough, they will hear the wonderful story behind that small decoration that could be hanging on his or her nursery wall.
Choose a drawer that is big enough.
Because a newborn baby needs to change clothes at least three times a day, the dresser or drawer in the nursery must be big enough to accommodate all the baby's stuff. That does not only mean clothes, but also washcloths, mittens, socks, bibs, and a lot more.
Some parents suggest a multi-purpose drawer where the top surface may also be used as the changing table.
