Giving birth during the coronavirus pandemic makes the experience a tad bit more complicated. For a mom from Derbyshire, United Kingdom named Sian Stafford, and it was a lot to take in, mainly because she gave birth ten weeks earlier than expected.
However, her partner, John Sellors, made things lighter when he asked Sian to marry him. The proposal came as a surprise and was done with the help of their preterm baby, Cobie.
The question, "Mummy, will you marry my Daddy?" was posted next to the ring in their preterm baby's incubator.
The plan for a proposal
Sian and John have been together for eight years. According to an ITV article, John has been dropping hints to Sian that he wanted to get married.
Because of their son's early arrival, John wanted to uplift Sian's spirits, so he decided to pop the question.
For him to execute his plan, John had to ask for the help of the nurses. The staff of King's Mill Hospital gladly helped the dad. He said that the team told him that when they return, things will be sorted out - and they were.
The proposal
Sian was told that their baby Cobie had been taken off the CPAP breathing machine. The mom was very excited to see Cobie since she could already see the baby's face more.
When the mom and dad returned to see their preterm baby, everything was in place.
However, the mom, Sian, did not even notice the note or the ring at first!
She said that she was concentrating so much on Cobie, that John had to prompt Sian. He said, "Look, I think Cobie wants to know something."
But once she realized that her partner was proposing, she felt everything was surreal. She said, "I was so shocked, I really didn't expect it and I was really overwhelmed."
According to John, he still does not consider himself the romantic type despite his sweet proposal.
Tha baby's condition
When Cobie was born, he weighed 3lb, 9oz. Sian gave birth ten weeks earlier than her due.
Even though he was born earlier than expected, he is doing well.
According to Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Cobie is still spending some time at the Intensive Care Unit, but his condition is continuously improving.
The newly engaged couple is hoping that they can already bring home baby Cobie home in the next few weeks.
