The parody video
The Pender County teachers were also the ones singing and dancing in the parody video.
They discussed in a fun way how important it is for everyone to wear masks. In a part of the song, the lyrics go,
"Quick to the point to the point no fakin'
Wearing my mask even when I eat bacon
Maskin up, all quick and nimble
I own 30 just to keep it simple."
Also discussed in the song is the importance of social distancing:
"Social- distance signs on the floor
I'm in the line, step back from the door
Rollin' on my way to school
Gonna wear my mask cause that's the rule."
The video which was uploaded last Monday already has more than 3,000 views on YouTube.

The Pender County teachers' letter
Last Friday, 60 of the Pender County School teacher wrote to the Board of Education. These teachers mentioned that they could not report to the class because they wanted to keep them safe.
According to the letter, the teachers think that going to class will violate the Code of Ethics for North Carolina Educators and the Pender County Board of Education Policy.
Both the code and policy have sections that discuss the safety rule when in class.

Also, the group of Pender County teachers indicated some of the concerns that they feel were not addressed yet by the Board of Education.
Some of these include:
- The supply of disposable wipes, cleaning supplies, and PPE for staff.
- The time for sanitizing desks between classes
- The resources for handwashing of students in school
- Protocols for COVID-19 testing and quarantine among teachers
The Pender County teachers also included in the 3-page attachment the benefits of delaying in-person instruction.
With all the teachers' concerns and questions, they were asking for a meeting with the Board of Education. This way, the teachers are hoping that together, they can come up with a solution.
