A Texas couple is adorned online for their sweet tradition. Tracy and Clifford Howell have been married for 41 years, and the tradition has been there since then.
Tracy shared on Facebook that she has been taking a bite out of her husband's sandwich. Her reason? She wanted to take this as a chance to say that she was with him during lunch.
The sweet post
In Tracy's post, she used a photo of a sandwich with a small bite at the side. Along with the photo is an explanation for that bite.
The sandwich was her husband's lunch for that day.
According to Tracy, she has been making her husband's sandwich since his first working day when they got married. Sometimes, she would join him for lunch at the site.
One time, when the Texas couple was eating lunch together, Clifford said that "... lunch tasted better when you share it with someone you love."
Since then, Tracy thought of a way to join her husband every lunch.
Having lunch together
Because it was not every day that Tracy can join her husband, she thought of a creative way to make him feel that she was with him.
One night, she decided to take a bite out of her husband's sandwich. When Clifford got home he told her that someone took a bite of his sandwich. Tracy then explained, "I told him that since I couldn't join him for lunch, I took a bite so he knew I was joining him."
The little tradition
Since that the couple's sweet little tradition continued. Until today, Tracy would still take a bite out of her husband's sandwich.
For forty-one years, Tracy and Clifford still shared lunch. What is even sweeter is that Clifford would still say, "saw you joined me for lunch today and it sure was good."
There were just a few exceptions to the kind of Tracy's preparation. Whenever the sandwich was tuna or pimiento, Tracy would not take a bite out of her husband's sandwich.
Netizens' reactions
Since Tracy posted the photo last December 1, it has been shared more than one hundred thousand times by netizens.
Some of those who saw the post admired the Texas couple's sweet tradition. One netizen said, "Great story! Small town love story gone viral."
Others said it is a sweet memory that the couple must cherish, "That is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard!"
Another netizen shared how she also does this to her kids' sandwiches, "I do that to the kids' lunch every now and then."
