A young boy from England is taking significant steps with his small bike. 8-year-old Rhys Stevens has put up a fundraiser to save puppies rescued in the dog meat trade.
As of writing, the young boy has raised over 3,000 US Dollars for this cause.
This initiative from the young boy was after he watched a documentary about the dog meat trade.
Raising the money to save the puppies
The mother of the 8-year-old boy, Kathleen Stevens, was the one who introduced the idea to his young boy. Kathleen encouraged Rhys to look for a way to raise money for China Rescue Dogs.
He did this by riding his bike.
Although he has already raised money, the 8-year-old boy continues with his fundraiser so that he could continue saving puppies.
Rhys said in his Facebook fundraiser, "Anything helps. I'm going to cycle 100 miles before the 31st of March to help raise money for this amazing charity. Thank you for your support."
According to Rhys' mom, "Rhys is passionate about dogs and animals in general. He just wants to do good things and make a difference."
Friends and relatives, who learned about the young boy's initiative to help the puppies from China, supported Rhys by donating money for every mile he rides. The young boy's fundraiser is also linked to the website of China Rescue Dogs.
Saving dogs in the meat trade
China Rescue Dogs is an organization located in North Carolina. It is dedicated to rescuing dogs from the meat trade.
They work hand in hand with shelters in China.
Part of the organization's task is removing the dogs from harm and ensure that their physical and psychological injuries are treated.
After rescuing dogs from China, the pets are transported to the US and Canada to find their new forever homes.
The young boy will welcome his dog soon.
In a press release by the China Rescue Dogs, they shared that Rhys is about to welcome in their home a dog named Lola.
The 8-year-old boy matched with Lola, a Husky who is only a year and a half old, and the organization hopes that this dog will serve as an inspiration to Rhys.
Grateful for the young boy's support
China Rescue Dogs is very happy for the kind of support the 8-year-old boy gives to the rescued dogs in China.
According to the organization's founder, Jill Stewart, "The fact that an 8-year-old boy, halfway around the world, is so selfless that he would want to ride his bike to help us save these dogs brings tears to my eyes."
The organization is looking for more individuals like Rhys who are interested in saving puppies. Aside from donating, China Rescue Dogs also welcomes people who are willing to adopt and volunteer.
