Elon Musk and Grimes are parents once more. The 33-year-old singer revealed on Thursday, March 10, that she and the Tesla CEO secretly welcomed their second child together, new baby girl Y, via surrogate in December 2021.
During an interview with Vanity Fair, Grimes made the revelation, telling the monthly magazine that she did not know what she was thinking when she concealed that baby news. Grimes was forced to acknowledge the baby when the interviewer heard an infant crying in the musician's Austin, Texas home.
She has decided to spill the secret now, with Grimes revealing that their new daughter's full name is Exa Dark Sideræl Musk.
Where did Musk and Grimes get that name for baby girl Y?
According to the article, they got the name Exa from the supercomputing term exaFLOPS, which is the ability to perform 1 quintillion floating-point operations per second. Grimes and Musk gave their child the Dark name because of its "unknown" qualities. Grimes said dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe, and people fear it, but it is truly the absence of photons.
Grimes said that Sideræl, pronounced "sigh-deer-ee-el," is "a more elven" spelling of the word sidereal. It refers to "the true time of the universe, star time, deep space time, not our relative earth time." The name Sideræl is reportedly a nod by the musician to Galadriel, her favorite "Lord of the Rings" character.
This is not the first time Musk and Grimes have given their child a unique name. The duo grabbed the headlines two years ago when they revealed that their first child's full name is X Æ A-12, which Grimes pronounces as "X A.I. Archangel."
Grimes reveals she has broken up with Musk
Grimes also shared some details about Musk in the interview, describing her relationship with the Tesla and SpaceX boss as "very fluid" and that she would probably refer to him as her boyfriend. A lot has changed since that interview with Grimes clarifying in a tweet she posted on Thursday that she and Musk have split once again. Grimes wrote that she and Musk have broken up since the article's writing, but she still considers the celebrity CEO as her best friend and the love of her life.
While Grimes kept her surrogacy news under wrap, the songwriter did post a photo on social media platform Instagram of herself in a cropped top in December of last year, showing a bare baby bump. That was the same month the surrogate gave birth to their child. The visual artist left the caption of her social media upload blank, only tagging the shoot's designer and photographer in her post.
That should have been a clue for her fans as the Canadian native, whose real name is Claire Boucher, announced her first pregnancy with Musk with a photo of her budding belly back in January 2020.
