A pregnant mom in the United States has redefined the term "cry baby" after she controversially bemoaned the gender of her unborn child. The mother-to-be posted a clip of her letdown, entitled "gender disappointment is real," on TikTok, with the video currently boasting nearly 250,000 views on the social media platform.
The inflammatory footage, uploaded by Nicole Shamlin last week, starts typically enough with the expectant mom and her beau celebrating the sex of their child at a gender reveal party. Her partner discharges a blue confetti canon, signifying that their child is a boy, and all appears to be hunky-dory, according to the New York Post.
However, while the future dad and mom seemed overjoyed then, in reality, Nicole was apparently crestfallen that she would not be having a baby girl, as she reportedly already has one son. The video clip subsequently cuts to the mom-of-one crying in her bed with the caption, "me later that night grieving the fact that I'm not getting my baby girl just yet."
Shamlin's reaction to gender reveal sparks huge backlash
The dismayed future mother, who is 28 weeks pregnant, asked, "How can I love another boy? Will I be replacing my first son? How can I love two sons?" Shamlin's wild reaction sparked a huge backlash from other moms, many of whom thought she should be grateful to have a healthy kid regardless of its gender.

One peanut gallery parent criticized Shamlin's pity party, writing, "This is sad. I went through years of IVF. I was just thankful to have one live child. Healthy is what you should care about, not the sex." Another parent wrote, "I'm sure there are plenty of mamas who would take that boy off your hands!! Also therapy works wonders!"

Shamlin claims she is now happy to have another son
Not all parents were critical of her though. Others emphatized with the expectant mother, with one sympathetic parent telling her, "Definitely understand the feeling. Going to have my 3rd boy in November, I was sad for a couple days but trusting in God's plan, and we are so excited."
Another mom lent support to Shamlin, writing, "You're not alone; I was a sobbing mess for hours ... I promise it'll be okay."
Fortunately, Shamlin's prenatal dismay was only temporary, as she claimed she has since grown to love having a second son in the family.
Nicole gushed in the caption, writing, "I only felt that way for a day. Now we are beyond excited and thankful."
This is not the first time a relative has been disappointed with a gender reveal. Kidspot reported that a grumpy grandmother hilariously threw an on-camera tantrum in a hilarious case of "gender disappointment" in April after learning that her granddaughter was having a boy and not a girl.
