Cincinnati Bengals star Ja'Marr Chase is living the wildest dreams of any athlete. It is not just because of the fame and the money, but the opportunity to give his mother whatever she wants, as he got her a brand new Maserati.
The Bengals wide receiver shared how he spent his first million dollars in a recent interview with GQ Sports. Chase admitted he was broke in his formative years and that his money would usually go to shoes when he was a child.
Chase was selected the fifth overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft by the Bengals and signed a massive four-year rookie deal worth $30.8 million with a $19.8 million signing bonus. Chase said the first thing he bought was his mom's car, worth about $65K.
Chase reveals Maserati gift was his father's idea
Chase said the gift was his dad's idea because her Audi had seen better days, and its air conditioning was not working. He said the new vehicle is black with a red interior. Chase added that his mom cried when he presented the car to her. Chase's emotions got the best of him as he also shed tears during the gift-giving.
Naturally, the 22-year-old NFL star spent a large portion of his first $1 million on himself, notably clothes, tattoos, jewelry, and a Rolls-Royce Wraith. The latter was by far his most expensive purchase at $300,000. He also gave each of his siblings $15,000 and paid off his family house, according to Sports Illustrated.
The sky is the limit for Chase, who had a spectacular rookie year for the Bengals last season. After he produced a glittering rookie season, his naysayers were left with nothing to say in 2021. The NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year stamped his class, catching 81 passes for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns in his first year with Cincinnati.

Chase looking for more achievements in Year 2
Chase blossoming into an NFL star is not a complete surprise to those who watched his dominance at Louisiana State University throughout its 2019 national championship-winning campaign. Still, there was skepticism, as Chase chose to sit out the 2020 season, which was riddled with cancellations and COVID-19 complications.
To the Chase family, playing one final season with LSU was not worth the risk, and his dad, Jimmy, had to remind his son of that early in the season when he wanted to opt back in with the Tigers, according to 247Sports.
That decision proved correct as Chase reached the Super Bowl in his first year in the NFL. His performance in Week 17 against the Kansas City Chiefs solidified his standing as one of the best wide receivers in the league. He caught 11 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns in Cincinnati's 34-31 victory.
