Comedian Amy Schumer revealed in an Instagram post that her three-year-old son, Gene, with her husband Chris Fischer, was confined in the hospital for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) while she was working as a host of Saturday Night Live (SNL) this week.
Schumer told People that it was the hardest week of her life, juggling her son's hospitalization and her SNL hosting gig. She had to miss the Thursday rehearsal as her son needed to be rushed into the ER and eventually admitted for RSV.
In her post, she gave a shout-out to all the parents going through a similar situation, and thanked the cast and crew of SNL for their flexibility, allowing the "Life & Beth" actress to manage her son's condition and prepare for her SNL hosting gig. She added she got to be with her son the whole day at the hospital and the beautiful individuals of the show. Gene is now home and better, Schumer said.
This weekend's hosting gig marks the third time "Inside Amy Schumer" has hosted the comedy sketch show since 2015. The comedian last appeared during Kim Kardashian's hosting stint in October 2021. Schumer noted what makes the show fun is the time people spent while making the project.

Amy says her son is not impressed with her glam life
Dr. Elizabeth Murray, a pediatrician specializing in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Child Health Advocacy and a member of People's Health Squad, said that RSV has been on the rise in previous weeks and has become notorious for causing wheezing and a ton of mucous in young kids. Noting that RSV has no direct treatment, the concern comes when a child's oxygen level drops.
On the other hand, the "Last Comic Standing" actress, revealed how her son felt about her life as a comedy star while attending the season 5 premiere of her show "Inside Amy Schumer" in New York on October 18. She said Gene was not impressed with her being a star, and was also not excited about seeing microphones and cameras, immediately asking if they can go already as he wanted chicken nuggets.
Although, according to Schumer, her son enjoys tagging along when she goes to work. "It's such a community on set," she said. Gene loves all the attention he's receiving and also seeing the kids of his mom's co-stars and co-collaborators. She emphasized that being a women-led show, they make the environment as child-friendly as possible, per EOnline.

There are limited nights that kids want to do such and at her son's age, "routine is so good for them," Schumer said. Despite the many number of times that she has to leave for work, the farewell does not get easier.
