Michelle and Barack Obama have filled the positions of president and first lady of the United States for eight years and raised their two daughters in one of the most recognizable places in the world, the White House.
Now, both of them are stepping into new roles: empty nesters. Michelle Obama told Good Morning America (GMA) that usually it's only her and her husband across the table, Sunny [the dog] under the table, looking at each other while also trying to hold off on talking so both of them can have something to talk about at dinner.
The former first lady of the United States told "Good Morning America" co-anchor Robin Roberts in her first broadcast interview ahead of the November 15 release of her highly-anticipated new book entitled "The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times," candid updates of her family's life after the White House, including how she and her husband are navigating their two daughters' dating lives.
The author wrote in her book that "Sasha and Malia are in that slightly wild, slightly ragtag flea-market stage of life, where new friends are exciting treasures that can be found almost anywhere." The two girls were just seven and 10 years old, respectively, when their family first entered the White House. Now the two are in their early 20s and Michelle called them her "grown women."

The two daughters are doing great
The lawyer added the girls survived eight years growing up in one of the harshest spotlights there is. Both of them are doing great and she is beyond proud of them as they are decent, good, best of friends, and are normal young women who are trying to be impactful in the world, and she couldn't ask for anything else.
The two grown women shared an apartment in Los Angeles. Michelle Obama also shared a memory of her two daughters hosting them for drinks and appetizers one night before dinner. She shared the girls prepared a charcuterie tray and attempted to make two very weak martinis but soon realized they didn't have any of the ingredients. They enjoyed their attempts at hosting them, seeing how their daughters have become themselves.
Michele told the co-anchor that she was stunned when her youngest daughter put down coasters for the drinks so that the new coffee table wouldn't get any marks.
The former first lady is happy for her children
Remembering what happened that day made her laugh as she had thought they didn't care about the watermarks on her table in the White House. Now, she knows they were paying attention all this time and she was happy but kind of surprised with her children's behavior.
Michelle, who celebrated 30 years of marriage this year to Barrack, stated that it's wonderful and awesome that her daughters were already in the stage of life where they get to seek their partner and explore different relationships. She Noted that she wants her children to know what they truly want and who they are in a certain relationship and that actually takes trying on some people.
She added that her husband is also good with it as he also learned how to be a concerned Black father but not in a crazy way that would embarrass their children.
