The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that an Amarillo, Texas establishment, Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc., recalls roughly 93,697 pounds of raw ground beef products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, particularly reflective mirror-like material.

The raw ground beef products were produced on November 2, 2022. The following items are subject to recall:

  • 10-lb. chubs containing "HILL COUNTRY FARE GROUND BEEF 73% LEAN/ 27% FAT with BEST BEFORE OR FREEZE BY: NOV 25, 2022."
  • 5-lb. chubs containing "HILL COUNTRY FARE GROUND BEEF 73% LEAN/ 27% FAT with BEST BEFORE OR FREEZE BY: NOV 25, 2022."
  • 5-lb. chubs containing "H-E-B GROUND CHUCK GROUND BEEF 80% LEAN/ 20% FAT."

The items that are subject to recall abide by the establishment number "EST 255E" on the hem of the chub. Such products were shipped to retail places in Texas. The concern was determined when the firm notified FSIS that they received various complaints reporting findings from consumers or mirror-like material in ground beef products sold from grocery stores.

Fortunately, there have been no confirmed report findings of negative reactions because of the consumption of such products. However, anyone concerned regarding an injury or illness is urged to contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers are advised not to consume the products

The FSIS express their concern that some recalled products may be in consumers' freezers or refrigerators. Thus, those who have bought recalled products are urged not to consume them and are advised to throw away the products or return them to the place of purchase.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service daily conducts recall effectiveness checks to ensure and verify recalling firms and immediately notify their customers regarding the recall. They will also determine and release steps that should be taken to make the particular product no longer available to consumers.

The retail distribution lists will be soon available and can be found on the FSIS website (www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls) as the recalls are posted there to inform the consumers.

Those who have further questions regarding the call can reach out to Tyson Fresh Meats Consumer Hotline at 1-855-382-3101. Moreover, media practitioners with questions about the recall can contact Derek Burleson, Public Relations, Tyson Fresh Meatsm, Inc., at Derek.Burleson@tyson.com.

Subject to recall due to foreign matter contamination

Foreign material contamination occurs when a certain food or product unintentionally enters a product prior to or during the manufacturing process. This comes in various sizes, shapes, and elements, which are undoubtedly a hassle not only to the company but most especially to the consumers.

Thus, thorough examinations and tests are important as contamination can happen and may pose a serious threat not only to the food and company but also to consumers as they may potentially present a hazard to the end consumer.

BakerPedia says if a certain foreign matter is found in a food, it should not only be ousted or neutralized but also investigated as the health of the consumer is already at risk. The company and the government agency should be able to identify the sources to ensure the safety of the consumers of a certain product.
