New Year's Eve is usually recognized as a holiday for grown-ups, yet it is so much fun to celebrate it with the entire family, especially with the kids.
A kid's New Year's Eve party is a delight to throw to get the little ones excited and hopeful for the coming year. Kids deserve to make ringing in the New Year a special, memorable occasion.
The family can prepare kid-friendly mocktails and enjoy a toast when midnight strikes. A New Year's Eve celebratory photo booth and props, which can be purchased from Amazon, can also easily be done at home. Or, if the parents are scheduled to head out for an adult party, why not celebrate Noon Year's Eve with the children first?
All these and more ideas, as USA Today rounded up the fun and festive ways to give the kids the most epic New Year's Eve party they can call their own.
10 ways to give the kids a New Year's Eve party
Whatever the case may be for the family, rest assured parents and caregivers will be able to find great ideas for a kid-friendly New Year's Eve with this list.
1. Countdown with their favorite cartoon or non-cartoon characters.
Turn on the TV, go to Netflix and watch kid-friendly countdowns. Netflix is giving the family a selection of character-driven New Year's countdowns filled with fun, fireworks, and confetti led by their favorites like Boss Baby, Spirit the horse, and more.
2. Create your own family photo booth at home.
Get a photo backdrop with all the New Year's props needed. Parents can keep it simple by buying a roll of craft paper that the kids and the whole family can decorate with glitter, shimmering pompoms, gold lettering, or anything that comes to mind for a personalized backdrop. Or, parents can kick it up a notch and buy a set along with the props needed. Either way, it will be fun, and the end-of-the-year snaps are sure to be special.
3. Do a Noon Year's Eve.
Another exciting way to celebrate New Year's Eve with the kids is to have a mock midnight and let the family have a party at noon.
"Pick a bedtime that's age-appropriate and make that your stroke of celebratory mock midnight. For our family it'll be 10 p.m., the sweet spot where our son starts to feel tired, but before he becomes possessed by the sleep demons. Kids will love that they got to stay up late, but everyone will be refreshed and in good spirits with the start of the new year," Janelle Randazza suggested.
4. Have a kid-friendly cocktail hour.
Let New Year's Eve be about a night to celebrate all of the kids' favorite food for the year. Let the children come up with the family's dinner menu. This will surely be a fun kick-off to an annual tradition where parents can know their kids' favorites and witness how these changes year after year. This could also be done with friends coming over. Parents can make it a potluck style where each family brings the favorite foods of the kids to share.
5. Don't skimp on the celebration - dress up.
So what if you are just at home. Celebrate, dress up, and make New Year's Eve more special. Let the family wear their fanciest dress, provide kids with cute New Year's crowns, and make them feel like royalty. Be sure to take loads and loads of photos.
6. Get some New Year's noisemakers.
They don't call it "ringing in the new year" for nothing. It's not a New Year's Eve party if the family won't be able to make some noise. Parents can get cute little noisemakers in festive black and gold at Amazon. Whether it is ringing in the new year at midnight or "Noon Year's Eve," the children will have a blast making a lot of noise.
7. Get creative and crafty.
Get crafty with the kids and create special bonding moments as the family enjoys these New Year's Eve boxes by Year Cheer. It is a box with everything the family needs on New Year's Eve. It has many family games, activities, and even celebratory decor to create beautiful and lasting memories during the family countdown.
8. Have a dance party.
Create a playlist that will get the children excited to get on the dance floor and dance. Of course, keep the songs both child and grown-up-friendly. Prepare some glow sticks and necklaces to set the mood. If the family has an extra budget, invest in an inexpensive dance floor light and even a bubble machine, and indeed it will be a night to remember. It is also the perfect time to show the kids how their parents move to the beat.
9. Have a movie night.
Nothing beats the traditional New Year's welcome with a movie night. These days it can be easier to stream the perfect New Year's movie on Disney+ or Apple TV. The family can choose between the classic Happy New Year Charlie Brown, which is perfect for the little ones, or Winnie the Pooh: A Very Merry Pooh Year for a longer movie experience.
10. Do your own ball drop.
The family may not see the actual holiday ball drop but let the children not miss the experience. Get a New Year's Ball piñata and let the family enjoy its own ball drop. After the ball drop, the kids will have more fun than the actual one as they get to smash the piñata when the clock strikes 12. They will surely enjoy the candies and toys from the piñata ball.
