The former sportscaster revealed for the first time that she lost more than her job after being fired from her controversial single season on Monday Night Football.

Lisa Guerrero will release her new memoir entitled "Warrior: My Path to Being Brave" this coming January 24.

In an excerpt of the book exclusively shared with People that she announced on Instagram, the journalist recalled that painful secret she had quietly carried for almost 20 years.

She revealed for the first time that before she was let go from her job, she had a miscarriage late in the season, and it happened while she was live on air in the middle of a game.

"I don't blame one person for this. The miscarriage wasn't because of Freddie, and it wasn't because of one radio talk show host or one bad column. It was a culmination of the entire season of negativity and cruelty. It was really cruel," Guerrero declared.

A long-kept secret

Guerrero expressed how she was a "shell" of herself during that time, with people looking at her with "such pity" as they knew what was going on with her boss and executive producer, Freddie Gaudelli, and how she was being treated in the media. She felt that admitting that she had a miscarriage would bring her more shame and embarrassment.

She kept quiet about what most of her best friends will only know about once they read the book, People reported.

She narrated in her new book how in the first half of an MNF game, she experienced excruciating pain in her abdomen. However, instead of running to the hospital, dizzy and nauseous, she forced herself to stand up straight and deliver her report.

It did not even occur to her to tell anyone or, at the very least, sit for the rest of the game. The only thing she was telling herself at that point was that as long as her long winter coat was buttoned up, no one would see the blood, and she will be able to get through the rest of the game.

More revelations in her book

After her live stint, she did not even rest but interviewed a coach. After the interview, she went to the bathroom and could not believe the blood she saw pouring out of her. The red liquid had soaked through her pants, yet all she did was shoved paper towels in her underwear because she needed to wait for the game to end.

After the game, she went to the plane instead of going back to the production truck to talk to Gaudelli. On board, she changed her clothes in the bathroom and threw her blood-soaked pants and underwear in the garbage can. She looked into the mirror and could not recognize the person staring back at her - "pale, gaunt, scared, and so very tired."

The journalist also detailed the "misogynistic abuse" she experienced in her sports journalism career, which was at its worst when she reached the pinnacle in 2003, as ESPN described, being the sideline reporter for MNF, watched by 40 million people weekly.

She recalled how she longed to be the "Barbara Walters of sports." It seemed that her dream was getting closer as she was already doing sit-down interviews with the big players and sportspeople, who were all opening up to her. Only to find out that not everybody is rejoicing with her. People criticized her because she was a woman in a man's world and thought she used her body to gain what she had.
