'Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge' Price & Release Date: Smartphone To Have Three Models With Different Chipsets -- What We Know So Far [Rumors]

This year, Samsung launched their flagship phone, the Galaxy S6, which came in three variants: the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. It looks like three is the lucky number for the South Korean tech giant as their next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S7, is rumored to be released in three different chipsets.

According to a report from SamMobile, Samsung is prepping up for next year's release of Galaxy S7 by using three processors: Exynos 7422, Exynos 8890 and Snapdragon 820 SoC.

Exynos 7422 was rumored to be included in the Galaxy Note 5, but it didn't push through. However, Samsung seems to be intent in using the chipset by putting it onboard the Indian version of the Galaxy S7. WCCF Tech notes that the Exynos 7422, or ePoP, combines the CPU, GPU, RAM, storage and modem in just a single chip.

Meanwhile, Exynos 8890, which is said to be released in South Korea, Japan and Europe, has already been spotted on benchmark sites, per Android Headlines. Citing a post on Weibo, which revealed benchmark results from Geekbench 3, the Exynos 8890 (codenamed M1) packs up a maximum speed of 2.4 GHz. It scored 2,304 points on the single-thread test and 8,038 points for the multi-thread test. Compared to the Exynos 7420, this variant has 60-percent (single-core) and 70-percent (multi-core) higher core performances.

For the Snapdragon 820 SoC, SamMobile notes that this variant of the Galaxy S7 will be available to the U.S. and Chinese markets. Android Headlines reports that Samsung dropped the Snapdragon 820 SoC before due to overheating and performance issues. However, Qualcomm is not about to give up, sending a "tweaked" version of the Snapdragon 820 SoC to Samsung and giving it another try.

There are not a lot of specs surfacing for the Galaxy S7 as it is still too early, but Android Headlines says that Samsung's next flagship phone is rumored to come off the box with 3 or 4GB of RAM and a 20-megapixel ISOCELL shooter. Previous leaks also claim that the Galaxy S7 will be launched in two display variants that measure 5.2 and 5.7 inches.

According to TechnoBuffalo, the South Korean tech company still has some few months to tweak and revise things before the Galaxy S7 is released to the market. Usually, Samsung launches its S series models during late February or early March, so these speculations have to be taken with a grain of salt until then.
