San Antonio father and son got arrested for double homicide in the killing of pregnant 18-year-old Savanah Soto and her partner Matthew Guerra, 22.
The tragic incident has shocked the local community, as Soto is expected to be giving birth to her child.
San Antonio Father and Son Charged and Detained
The San Antonio Police Department made a key breakthrough in the chilling case that left pregnant 18-year-old Savanah Soto and her partner, Matthew Guerra, dead in their car.
The police arrested the father and son, allegedly involved in the killing of the two: Ramon Preciado, 53, and his son, Christopher Preciado, 19.
Both Preciado are now detained, and the 19-year-old suspect is going to be charged with capital murder, while Ramon Preciado will be charged with abuse of a corpse for helping move the bodies of both victims.
In Texas, the possible punishment for capital murder is either life imprisonment or the death penalty. Furthermore, in a statement, the San Antonio Police Department confirmed that there could still be further charges that are on the way, which may be related to the death of the unborn child.
According to Sgt. Washington Moscoso, the investigators suspect that the fatalities were connected to a failed narcotics transaction.
Moscoso added that when the police arrived at their home, the father greeted them at the door, fully aware of the reason for their visit, and cooperated with the investigation.
Subsequently, both the father and son were questioned by the authorities, leading to detectives securing a judicial warrant, as Moscoso stated.
The police acquired footage after midnight, which shows the two suspects being led into a car by officers as they passed the media that was waiting.
According to statements made by Sgt. Moscoso during a press conference, Soto's family became concerned when she failed to show up for her scheduled appointment to undergo chemical induction of labor.
The two bodies were discovered on December 26 in a Kia Optima sedan that belonged to Guerra. However, upon investigation, it is suspected that the killings occurred at midnight on December 21.
It was later revealed that both victims died due to the gunshot wounds to the head, as per the Bexar County Medical Examiner.
Seeking Justice for Three Lives Lost
During the investigation, one of the pivotal moments came with the recovery and analysis of 18-year-old Soto's cell phone. The San Antonio Police, in collaboration with the U.S. Secret Service, managed to extract crucial information from the device, which steered them towards the suspects that they have now.
The San Antonio Police Department, while acknowledging the breakthrough, remains deeply engaged in the ongoing investigation, piecing together the events that culminated in this heartbreaking incident.
Sergeant Washington Moscoso observed that the case has garnered substantial public interest and has been clouded by numerous rumors and conjectures about the suspects.
The Police Department remains steadfast in their commitment to bring justice to those responsible for the double homicide, aiming to offer some solace to a community reeling from this tragic event.
The involvement of Christopher and Ramon Preciado in this case underscores the complex challenges faced by law enforcement in resolving crimes of such severity.
