A couple from Chicago was assaulted following a date in the Streeterville neighborhood on Friday.

While walking near Grand Avenue and McClurg Court, they were surrounded by a group of teenagers. The woman, identified as Nina, narrated being kicked, stomped on, and punched, leading to severe wounds.

She was two weeks pregnant at the time and later found she had lost the baby. Nina expressed disbelief at the senseless attack, as the assailants did not attempt robbery but instead claimed ownership of the street.

Photos of her injuries, including a pulled-out chunk of hair and a bruised eye, were shared. Her husband was also subjected to violence, with the group using pepper spray and kicking Nina's stomach.

Despite police responding to the incident and arresting two teenagers, the victims declined further medical attention. Meanwhile, the Cook County State Attorney's Office is yet to address inquiries regarding potential additional charges for the suspects.

The circumstances reflect the continuing concern of crime in Chicago, with certain offenses showing increases compared to the former year, although there has been a deterioration in murders, theft, and sexual assaults.

Dreadfully, the city encountered a destructive Memorial Day weekend, marked by various shootings and accidents, including the fatal demise of a five-year-old girl.

Pregnant Wife Lost Her Baby on the Attack

The occurrence happened less than two weeks after residents held a town hall meeting to demand action against teenage gangs causing chaos in a neighborhood where attacks have risen by 12 percent in the past year.

"We moved here thinking it would be quieter," said Streeterville resident Mark Wolfe. "Now, we have what my wife and I call the 'Saturday night scaries' because of the kids causing chaos."

Describing the attack, the latest victim stated, "Everything happened from behind us. First, someone approached him and hit him on the head, and then another lady grabbed me by the hair and dragged me to the ground.

I started screaming, and she pepper-sprayed me in the face. Another person started stomping on me, while my husband tried to save me but was held back by over ten people."

"We were just trying to get home to our kid. Leave us alone. Why are you doing this to us?" she begged.

Nina was two weeks pregnant at the time of the assault and badly lost the baby shortly afterward. "We believe in fate, and it wasn't meant to be," she reflected. "So, we don't understand why this happened to us."

Although the neighborhood gained fame in 2020 with the Jussie Smollett case, destructive crimes have been growing across the city.

Aggravated battery is up 20 percent compared to the same period last year, while robberies have surged by 38 percent and thefts by 77 percent.

Following the assault, police captured a 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, charging them both with criminal offense battery. However, local officials are pushing for felony liabilities due to the severity of the casualty's wounds.

Despite a city-wide curfew for unaccompanied minors, residents fear the neighborhood is heading for a summer scourged by teen gang violence. "I'm concerned. I'm an older person, and we don't go out at night anymore," said Barbara Webb.

"We've never had the issues in the neighborhood that we are currently having," added Deborah Gershbein, president of the Streeterville Organization of Active Residents. "Everyone is concerned because summer is just beginning."
