There is no doubt that the 2009 American epic science fiction film "Avatar" was a blockbuster hit. The film broke box office records and became the highest-grossing film of all time.
It scored nine Oscar nominations and grossed over $2.7 million billion around the globe. It even ushered a new era of 3-D blockbusters.
Due to the film's success, James Cameron knows that there is a big expectation for "Avatar 2." The director is not taking chances but wants to ensure that the sequel will not be a disappointment.
According to reports, the Oscar-award winning director is doing another pass to the script of "Avatar 2" and the other two sequels. Cameron, the man behind the anticipated blockbuster film, confirmed this when he spoke with Entertainment Weekly.
"I'm in the process of doing another pass through all three scripts right now," Cameron said in a phone interview. "Just refining. That's in parallel with the design process. The design process is very mature at this point. We've been designing for about a year and a half. All the characters, settings and creatures are all pretty much [set]."
Since the hardest part of research and development were already done, the 61-year-old filmmaker was asked if bringing a new installment in the big screens has got easier. "No," Cameron answered laughing.
"Because you have to challenge yourself. Obviously, expectations are going to be very high on these films, especially on Avatar 2, to make sure it wasn't just some big fluke the first time. So we've got to deliver. I've created a nice rod for my own back, so they say," he explained.
Fans are pleased to know that Cameron and his team are working hard to give their best for "Avatar 2" and the other two sequels. Per Christian Post, the director had to relinquish directing another movie entitled "Battle Angel Alita" to Robert Rodriguez to concentrate on the "Avatar" films.
So, what can fans expect in "Avatar 2?" Parent Herald previously reported that the two main characters from the first film would return in the sequel. It was first announced that Stephen Lang would be reprising his role as Col. Miles Quaritch in the sequel. Many believed that the character died in the first film after Neytiri shot him twice in the chest.
Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) will also return in "Avatar 2." She was fatally wounded when Col. Quaritch shot her and died at the foot of the Tree of Souls when Jake and the Omaticaya clan tried to revive her.
In a separate report from Parent Herald, Cameron revealed that "Avatar 2" would explore Pandora's ocean ecosystem. He also teased that the challenger's deep will have a direct link to the film.
"Avatar 2" will hit the big screens on Dec. 25, 2017.
