Naughty Dog is reportedly thinking of incorporating several role playing game (RPG) elements in the highly anticipated "Last of Us 2." Although this approach worked in multiple video games, some claimed that it could possibly ruin the franchise.
According to Movie Pilot, many were surprised to see the inclusion of dialogue options in "Uncharted 4." Based on the trailer, players will be able to choose how to respond to certain questions, which could highly impact the whole narrative. While this may sound like a good thing to others, perhaps those who were left unsatisfied with how "Uncharted 3" ended, the author pointed out that giving players more freedom may end up destroying the whole point of the franchise.
"Naughty Dog have become masters at delivering excellent cinematic experiences. Allowing us to impact on that may destroy the reputation they've cultivated," Kenny McDonnell explained.
The outlet further pointed out that although it would be interesting to see Naughty Dog make an RPG, it would probably best if they stick to creating a game that focuses on the overall narrative experience, something that they definitely do best.
Given that Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley have admitted that they were working on a few ideas for "The Last of Us 2" before they were pulled out to speed up the release of "Uncharted 4," some speculated that the two games may have a lot of similarities.
In other news, multiple reports suggested that some "The Last of Us" fans are hoping that Naughty Dog will release an option for an alternate. Although the game possibly has one of the best narratives to date, some argued that the players should have been given the choice when it comes to the ending. Some thought that it would have been better if Ellie ended up killing Joel, pointing out that she had been doubting his honesty.
In their Reddit AMA, Druckmann and Straley explained that it was the "most honest ending they could come up with."
