Five years since "Red Dead Redemption" came out in 2010 and fans have yet to hear a confirmation saying that a sequel is in the works. Following the success of the video game, it is really surprising that Rockstar is not making it their priority.
It has also been two years since Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed the sequel. Speaking at the Cowen and Company analyst conference, via Gamespot, Zelnick revealed that "Red Dead" should be considered a permanent franchise, much like "Grand Theft Auto" and "Borderlands."
In spite of the seemingly lack of updates in terms of its release date, Latinos Post speculated that "Red Dead Redemption 2" will most likely be a prequel.
Reddit user "AnonDN1978" reportedly started this rumor, saying that the sequel will take place twelve years before its predecessor. He also claimed that it will be called "Read Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West." Given that it would be a prequel, lead protagonist John Marston will not be part of the third installment of the franchise.
In other news, former Rockstar employee Danny Ross has allegedly confirmed that the company has already started working on "Read Dead Redemption 2."
Although excited about the news, Redditors were surprised with how Ross got away with leaking such important information. Some pointed out that he could face a lawsuit as he may have breached a confidentiality agreement with Rockstar.
Redditor "chorizonte" explained that companies are cautious when it comes to releasing information about a video game release. S/He explained that most of them wanted to wait for the right time to reveal the gameplay, plot, release date when they are closed to finishing development.
"It seems counter-intuitive, but games can suffer from overexposure before release. Ubisoft is the king of this, they'll shove their games in people's faces so much and so early that by the time the games are actually on store shelves they almost feel like old news (the shit quality of their games doesn't help)," he added.
