Super Bowl is celebrating its 50th year and Pizza Hut is commemorating the event by serving Stuffed Garlic Knots Pizzas - in 24-karat gold. By next week, the American pizza company will be delivering the special gold pizzas covered in $100-worth of edible gold flakes to 50 lucky viewers
"It's not every day that the Golden Anniversary of the Big Game is played in the Golden State," Jared Drinkwater, VP of Marketing at Pizza Hut, told CNBC. "So we felt it was only appropriate to celebrate with a limited-edition Golden Garlic Knots Pizza."
On top of that, the limited-edition pizza will be given away to 50 customers. They will also receive a $100 gift card consumable at Pizza Hut, of course!
In order to join, customers must order the regular Stuffed Garlic Knots Pizza or email the company's PR Team (PR@PizzaHut.com) between 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (ET) on Feb. 7. Winning is the difficult part because Super Bowl Sunday is the busiest day of the fast food chain.
Ad Age reported that Pizza Hut is already planning to air up to a dozen video ads on CBS on Sunday in order to further boost sales. The company has been running commercial during 10-15 minute pre-game period or exactly the right moment when most Americans are deciding what to eat during the games. The pizza chain expects to sell two million pizzas during the Super Bowl which, compared to a normal day, is up to 90 percent increase.
Pizza Hut is not the official sponsor of the Golden Anniversary of Super Bowl, but the company is banking big on the game which will be played in the Golden State. In order to sell its Stuffed Garlic Knots Pizza, the company has enlisted the help of Detroit Lions player, Golden Tate, to endorse the product. The fast food chain will also be holding several events in the Bay Area.
