Foria Relief is a tampon-like product that offers its clients a relief on their menstrual pain. And these cramp-relievers is currently only available in California and Colorado where pot has been legalized. But the owners of the business have ambitions for a wider reach-out.
However, Dr Helen Webberley, of the Oxford Online Pharmacy is very concerned about women using such product, given the fact that it has not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). She said the capsule has not even been studied yet but people are already making "assumption" that the cannabis can help ease period pains. "I would be very worried about women using this product before it has been fully evaluated," Webberley added to Huffington Post.
Another health expert also expressed her concern too. Lauren Streicher, M.D., associate clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Northwestern University said to Women's Health there aren't any studies that can show that this brand does what it claims to do.
Health experts concern came after they heard about women inserting cannabis-filled suppositories into their vaginas to banish period pain. And these women didn't mind the fact that the particular product is not yet evaluated by FDA which regulates medications.
Nevertheless, these little cramp-relievers are currently available in the market at roughly $44 for a pack of four capsules. Each serving contains a "specially formulated blend of THC and CBD, cannabinoids which are known to relax muscles and release tension and cramping in the body," explained by its website.
Users just need to lie on their back and place a pillow under their bottom. Then they can insert the suppository into their vagina -- allowing the cannabinoids to give a soothing effect on their uterus, cervix and muscle tissue. "Users have reported a significant decrease in the pain and discomfort often associated with menstruation," the Foria site further claimed.
