'Supernatural' Season 11, Episode 13 Spoilers: 'Love Hurts' Recap

"Supernatural" season 11, episode 13 once again shows a change in the dynamic typically seen between the Winchester brothers. Naturally, Dean (Jared Padalecki) is the older of the two, serving as a protector who naturally becomes the hero every single time. Thankfully, "Love Hurts" shows another side of Sam, who literally saves Dean's (Jensen Ackles) heart.

This week's episode is all about Valentine's Day, or as Dean likes to call it, "unattached drifter Christmas." However, the show's take on the holiday this year seems more gory than romantic.

A couple in Hudson, Ohio was going to go out for dinner on Valentine's Day. But before they even leave the house, it's revealed that the husband has been having an affair with the babysitter, Stacy, who was later killed in their home.

Afterwards, Sam is reading the news about the woman who died because of a "broken heart" and then discovers a hickey on Dean's neck as the latter chows down on cold Chinese food.

Once they got to Ohio, it didn't take long for the guys to figure out that something was off with the husband, Dan. The brothers decide to split up after finding out that the nannycam was stolen after the murder.

Sam finds the medical examiner dumbfounded, as the wounds seem like the Stacy's heart was literally ripped off through and out her chest. Meanwhile, Dean gets a confession from Dan about the affair and the stolen camera.

However, after watching the footage - they see Dan murdering Stacy, which of course wasn't really him. Dean immediately knows they're facing a shapeshifter. But then Stacy shows up at Dan's office and rips his heart out of his chest too!

The boys then visit the next suspect, Dan's wife Melissa. Testing the waters, Dean hands her a silver pen, which confirms she's not the shapshifter. Melissa then gets a visit from Dan, but luckily was able to escape. She makes a run to the boys at Too Tied Motel.

Trying to explain the truth about knowing the affair, and enlists the help of her hairdresser to get her husband fall in love with her again. The hairdresser - who claims to be a white witch - then gives her a "return to love" spell and Melissa tried it on Dan.

As it turns out, the kiss wasn't a spell, but an Aramaic curse called "the kiss of death." To make matters more challenging, the curse can be transferred to other people. As Dean says, "Like a magic STD." So naturally, because the curse started with Melissa, it would have to end with her too.

Dan shows up at the motel to kill Melissa, but Dean kisses her - making him the next target. After being able to escape once again, they all head out to find Sonya, the witch.

They find a book inside the salon and find out that they're dealing with a Qareen. As Entertainment Weekly puts it, "A slave to its commands, a Qareen presents itself to its victim as said victim's deepest, darkest desire. For Dan, that was Stacy. And for Melissa, it was Dan."

Sam goes off looking to find and stab the Qareen's heart. Unfortunately, as soon as he finds it, Sonya shows up and pins him to a chair. Meanwhile, the Qareen shows up to kill Dean as his "deepest, darkest desire," Amara the Darkness (Emily Swallow).

While Dean tries to fight off the Qareen, Sonya explains that she's "weeding out the idiots" by punishing cheaters and the foolish women who try to get the cheaters back.

Thankfully, Sam shoots the witch, stabs the Qareen's heart just before Dean's heart gets ripped out. However, it seems as though this wasn't the biggest challenge the brothers had to face in the episode.

Dean confronts Sam about his connection with Amara. Like the good brother that he is, Sam doesn't get mad at Dean, noting that he's not blaming him or judging him.

Dean explains that he wants Amara dead, but when he gets near her, "I'm screwed, man." Dean knows that they have to kill the Darkness but confesses that he doesn't think he can. Sam simply replies, "I got it, Dean."
