Keeping your house clean when you've got young kids is definitely challenging but not impossible. In fact, Carol Paul, author of "Team Clean: The Ultimate Family Clean-Up-The-House Formula" said she and her kids have been cleaning their home as a family every Thursday for the past 15 years and they've never missed one.
What's her secret? Well, "Whatever you have them doing, teach the job correctly the first time," Paul shared to Parenting. "Have patience with them and give it to them in two or three short, simple steps."
And to help you create your own Team Clean, Paul gave some helpful tips to get your children help you clean the house.
The Vacuum Job
Paul said older kids can vacuum the rugs. Just help your kids with the attachment. And to make it a fun moment for the kids, she always tells her children to put their headphones on and listen to music while vacuuming the rugs.
The Mopping Task
The author said kids can mop the non-rug surface. Parents can give their young children spray bottles full of the right solution and a rag. Then just let their children go around the house with the rag.
Wiping Off the Kitchen Table and Chairs
Parents should give their children their own bucket and a wet rag. And to make it interesting, give them a beach bucket. "They think it's so cool because they have beach buckets," Paul explained.
Doing the Laundry
To make the laundry easier, Paul said parents can break the job into different responsibilities. You can ask your other kid to sort the fabrics by color. Then ask your other kid to move the load to the dryer.
Folding Fabrics
Paul said she throws a basket laundry in front of her kids and just tell them "you get to watch a TV show if you fold a little laundry,' and they'll just start folding."
Involving your children in domestic chores can be challenging. Nevertheless, it's a great way to teach them about responsibility and the importance of cleanliness. With all these tips, you can definitely springclean your home in no time.
