Baby's Bowel: Signs Of Baby Constipation And Best Home Remedies

Monitoring baby's poop is another thing parents should do. For one, pooping is a clear sign that your baby is taking enough food or he is constipated. However, if your little one is straining to do his thing, it doesn't necessarily mean that he is constipated.

So, how can you tell if your baby is constipated? Check your baby's poop if it's dry and accompanied by foul smell. Your baby also has constipation if he appears to be in pain while trying to have bowel movements. It is also a sign if he has fewer than three bowel movements a week and loses his appetite.

What causes your baby's constipation?

Well, there are several reasons why your child may be constipated. One, the introduction of solid foods. Babies often become constipated when they start consuming solid foods as their bodies are learning to manage new foods. Another reason is dehydration. Your baby might not be getting enough fluid that's why he is having a hard time to poo.

How to treat constipation?

If your baby is formula fed, give him water in between. Hence, if symptoms persist, consult your pediatrician because she may also recommend you to try other brands of milk.

If you're starting to introduce solid foods to your baby, give him plenty of water. You can also give him diluted fruit juices. If it doesn't seem to help, try pureed foods such as apricots, pears and prunes and other foods that are high in fiber. In addition, you could also give your baby barley cereal for breakfast.

If the said treatments have not worked, your doctor might suggest placing an infant glycerin suppository into your baby's anus. However, if you notice it still persists despite the remedies and it is accompanied by other symptoms such as rectal bleeding, then it's high time to take your baby to a doctor.

Try not to worry if your child becomes constipated because it will likely occur every now and then. Just follow these tips and your baby will soon establish regular bowel movements.
