"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 3 episode 16 proved to be a refreshing plot change from its expected shenanigans. Rather than following the adventure of Jake (Andy Samberg), "House Mouses" puts Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker) and Scully (Joel McKinnon Miller) in the spotlight.
Any fan of the show would know that Hitchcock and Scully are typically just seen in the background, just eating and never really leaving the office to work in the field.
The episode starts off when Jake opts out of a small case, and passes it off to Hitchcock and Scully. Of course, Jake just wants to get his hands on a much bigger case.
Meanwhile, the girls take the opportunity to face their fears - Amy (Melissa Fumero) with her claustrophobia, Rosa's (Stephanie Beatriz) fear of needles, and Gina (Chelsea Peretti), who's afraid of businessmen. Holt (Andre Braugher), on the other hand, teams up with Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) to tackle a "celebrity case."
But as it turns out, Jake's case apparently was the small one, and the case he handed off to Hitchcock and Scully actually led to a drug ring operation. Jake and Terry (Terry Crews) head over to find the "house mouses" and find Scully on his own.
Once they head over to rescue Hitchcock, they see him being grappled by mobsters before being shoved into a truck. Terry, Jake and Scully follow the van to an abandoned warehouse.
As Scully starts to get beaten up by the mafia boss, the trio head over to try and rescue Hitchcock. Of course, things take a turn and the foursome find themselves tied to chairs.
But by the end of the day, the two slackers have "turned their weaknesses into strengths (Hitchcock's ability to avoid actual walking by riding his office chair over any terrain; Scully's ability to sweat profusely) in taking down the bad guys," reports Entertainment Weekly.
According to TV Over Mind, the episode revolves around how we look at ourselves as well as each other. "For Hitchcock and Scully, this meant proving they could work a case no matter what the rest of the precinct thinks of them."
