Baby Teething: Spot The Signs And Give The Best Remedies

Teething occurs when the child's first few teeth emerge through gums. This usually happens around 6 to 9 months of age. But some babies get their first tooth as early as 3 months or as late as 12 months.

When your baby's first tooth start to poke through, he might show some teething symptoms such as irritability, drooling, swollen gums, the difficulty of sleeping, loss of appetite, grabbing his ears or he will bite everything he can get his hands on. If you notice any of these symptoms, it's more likely that your child's tooth is starting to come out.

Safe Teething Remedies

Luckily, when your child is feeling the discomfort there are some tested remedies that can help take away the pain. And here are some of it:

1. Teething toy

Give your child a teething toy or a washcloth that has been chilled. Cold objects or fabrics can numb the sore gums.

2. Cold drinks

If your baby is already six months and you introduced water to him, then you can give him icy cold water. A glass of cold water can give some chilly relief to his aching gums.

3. Pain Reliever

If the cold objects and the cold drink didn't work then try acetaminophen and ibuprofen to temporarily ease the pain. However, be sure to consult your pediatrician before you use it to your child.

4. Distract your kid

Offer your child different toys, so he will forget about the pain. Moreover, give him extra hugs and kisses, so will take his mind off from his mouth.

What to avoid?

If the symptoms persist, just be patient and don't ever try to use numbing agents such as rubbing alcohol because it is poisonous to your baby. Better to always seek your physician's advice.

The teething process tends to be painful for the babies. Nevertheless, no need to worry because once the first few teeth erupt, the process will be much less painful. Just be patient and don't underestimate your healing touch and he'll have a healthy set of teeth.
