'Star Trek 3' Release Date, Spoilers & News: Idris Elba Teases New Villain In 'Star Trek Beyond' & More

Idris Elba is just as excited as the rest of the "Star Trek" fans when it comes to "Star Trek Beyond," the reboot's third installment of the franchise. With "Star Trek 3" already finished, everyone's just itching for the release date to come.

As it turns out, Idris Elba - who will be playing the villain in "Star Trek Beyond" - has always dreamed of landing villainous character in classic sci-fi brand.

"Simon [Pegg] and the team have written a very interesting, complex journey for my character," Elba told MTV. "You've never seen me play a character like this."

"I think 'Star Trek' has prided themselves on being quite classic when it comes to villains," he teased about the film's villain. "He's a guy who wants to end the world, there's no doubt about that. But in this version of the film, there's a slightly different twist to that."

Apparently, "Star Trek 3" is a very special movie: according to Simon Pegg, "Star Trek" will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, which is why the script was written with the milestone in mind.

The original cast will be reprising their roles for "Star Trek Beyond," including Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Anton Yelchin as Chekov, John Cho as Sulu, and Simon Pegg as Scotty.

"Star Trek 3" will be directed by Justin Lin of the "Fast and Furious" franchise, while Roberto Orci and J.J. Abrams serve as producers. Simon Pegg also served as a writer for the film.

"Star Trek Beyond" hits theatres on July 22, 2016.
