Witnesses testified against Robert 'Bob' Bashara in court to determine whether or not there is enough evidence to charge him for first-degree murder of his wife, Jane, according to MY FOX Detroit.
The key witnesses the judge heard from included Bob's ex-girlfriend, Rachel Gillett, and his daughter, Jessica Bashara. Jessica told the court she didn't know about Gillett until after her mother's death. She says once the news reports came out about Bob's alleged affairs, he admitted to Jessica that he did have one in the past.
Before her mother's death, Jessica says she found a sexually-charged text message, which she confronted him about. She tells the court, "I showed my father the text message and asked him what it was, and he asked to look at my phone and deleted the message, handed my phone back and said that there were no messages like that on his phone."
Jessica also says she caught her father looking at pornography online. She says he viewed it on the web site alt.com several times, and that it became a source of trouble for the family.
Gillett says it's on that same web site that she and Bob first met. Gillett began her testimony today about their relationship before it was interrupted by a courthouse evacuation due to the power outage downtown.
Records also show Bob called Gillett twice from his home phone during that time, and cell phone records show he was actively engaged in courting a woman from Oregon. Prosecutors believe that woman was also a part of the alternate sexual lifestyle Bob was seeking with Gillett due to the type of text messages sent back and forth between the two. She is due back in court on Thursday.
