Frank Underwood of "House of Cards" may not be the real president of the United States, but that doesn't mean Kevin Spacey can't be the country's commander-in-chief for a night.
On Monday night, Netflix had an exclusive event for the new season debut of "House of Cards." In fact, anyone living a rock could've easily suspected that Kevin Spacey is the new POTUS had they seen him at the Washington D.C. event.
Arriving at the National Portrait Gallery, Spacey rolled up in a limousine, which was painstakingly similar for the presidential vehicle known as "the Beast," reported the Washington Post.
The whole set up was complete with so-called Secret Service agents as Spacey - in character as Frank Underwood, of course - entered the gallery and spoke in front of a crowd before the premiere of "House of Cards" season 4 episode 1.
Taking the stage, Kevin Spacey unveiled a portrait of himself, that looked like a legitimate presidential portrait. To complete the whole scene, Kevin even stood on a podium that had the presidential seal on it.
As it turns out, the whole crowd at the Netflix publicity stint were a mix of real and faux Washington officials, who mingled at a "part marketing stunt, part social event, with a dash of art."
Guests included presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett, First Lady Chief of Staff Tina Tchen, and cast members Michael Kelly, Neve Campbell, and Jane Atkinson - all of whom were also in character, blending in with the Washington stereotype.
Surely, no one would want to hear any spoilers about what happened in the season 4 debut, but here's a clue: "Ellen Burstyn steals the show," reports David Zurawik of The Baltimore Sun.
"House of Cards" season 4 will be available on Netflix starting March 4.
