Bike-Riding Teens Involved in Flash Mob Robberies of Convenience Stores Were Turned in by Their Parents

The parents of teens involved in a string of flash mob robberies of 7-Eleven stores in the summer have turned in their kids to the police, according to a report.

At least three parents have turned in their kids to officials in connection to a series of flash mob robberies that occurred across Los Angeles over the summer. The parents said they spotted their children's faces in surveillance footage of the robberies that were released by the Los Angeles Police Department. It was noted that many of the teens involved in the robberies did not cover their faces.

All three teens have been booked for robbery, as first reported by news station KTLA 5. It is unclear if the teens will face additional charges.

The LAPD expects more arrests to be made soon, adding that they have been receiving anonymous tips after the surveillance footage was released. They also said school resource officers are working with them to identify the other kids involved in the robbery.

Flash Mob Robberies

The recent arrests come after the LAPD received 14 reports of flash mob robberies of 7-Eleven stores from July 12 to Sept. 20. According to the police, the groups were often made up of 20 to 40 bicycle-riding teens who would enter the convenience store and grab items off the shelves. They also caused damage to some of the stores they robbed.

"The suspects enter the stores in the evening hours, remove merchandise, damage property, and flee without paying," the release read.

Where There Any Injuries Reported

In some of the robberies, the suspects physically pushed witnesses inside the store. No physical injuries were reported in connection to the incidents.

Thirteen of the 14 robbery incidents were reported on a Friday night between 6:30 and 8 p.m. The stores they targeted were located across Los Angeles, including in the neighborhoods of Hollywood, Rampart, and West LA, per a news release. Additionally, four of the 10 stores robbed were hit twice.

The LAPD is still open to receiving tips related to the flash mob robberies. Tips can be given at (887)-LAPD-24-7 or (877) 527-3247. Tips can also be submitted to www.lacrimestoppers.org.
