6 Best Family-Friendly Halloween Movies To Watch With Kids and Teens

It's October! That means it's time to carve the pumpkins and prepare for Halloween movie night.

There are plenty of family-friendly scary films to enjoy with the kids. We listed some of our favorites. We included animated classics and live-action films.

1. Halloweentown

This Disney Channel classic was famous in the '90s. It features actress Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Aggie. She is a witch helping her teenage granddaughter discover her powers. They go to Halloweentown---a place where supernatural creatures live peacefully away from mortals. Together, they uncover a mystery involving Halloweentown citizens disappearing.

2. The Nightmare Before Christmas

This 1993 film birthed Halloween icon Jack Skellington. The movie centers around the mayor of Halloween Town who later discovers Christmas Town. There, he finds warmth and joy and works to bring that spirit to his town.

3. Monster House

Most movies depict houses as haunted by spirits. But what if the house is actually the monster? That's exactly the premise of this 2006 film. A run-down house in the neighborhood is an evil creature that devours trick-or-treaters. A trio of children must find a way to stop the Monster House.

This film may be better for tweens and teens.

4. Coraline

This 2009 is visually stunning. It is also incredibly creepy. The story follows 11-year-old Coraline who discovers a small door in her new home. The door leads to an alternative world where her parents have button-eyed versions. The parents appear perfect until she discovers they want to steal her soul.

5. The Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion is a 2003 movie that's funny and scary. The movie features Eddie Murphy. He is a realtor who gets his family stuck inside a haunted mansion he is trying to sell.

There was a remake of this movie starring Rosario Dawson, Danny DeVito, and LaKeith Stanfield.

6. Corpse Bride

The movie starts with Victor Van Dort who is nervously practicing his wedding vows in a forest. There, he slipped a ring on the fingers of a dead bride who takes him to the Land of the Dead. The film follows Victor as he tries to get back to the Land of the Living and help the corpse bride find peace.

The film features Johnny Depp as Victor. It also stars Helena Bonham Carter as the deceased bride.
